Reading is that what your supposed to do with those things they call books , i thought they were just made for me to roll some joints on them , and wipe my ass with those pages lol suprisingly i do read , a lot too . and suprisingly except for a leonard Maltin film review book( that i pick up in the laundry room), it hasnt cross my mind to be on the look out for books about film history or directors biography , I really cant explain why , but now this seems like a great idea , thanks for the recomendation ill be on the look out for some , this will probably suprise you dho , except for The shining, Stangeloveand a Clockwork orange I dont really care for Kubrick fims ( aldo i like a bit and would own)2001 and Full metal , and i dont really understand why every one was so hype about that directors , Eyes wide shut was one of the most boring films I ever watch, that was a pretentious peice of shit in my opinion. Also except for his Gangsta flicks ( excluding the boring Gangs of new york) and Taxi I dont have strong feeling about the other Scorsesee flicks , Speilberg and Stones also have a lot of hit and miss for me . But your irhgt about Penn and Altman aldo i know a lot of the films they did , I have only seen 2 films from both each . The boring Popeye and the good The player and for penn both great flicks the quirky Penn and Teller gets killed and Bonnie and clyde .

Thats why i love checking a lot of biography and docs about films on TVO , awesome source of films recomendations . I saw a great one 2 years ago on Moviepics about canadian Horror films , dont remember the name dho , one of the most interesting docs about canadian films i have seen.

I also cant really say i have a huge place in my heart for canadian flicks( french or english ) except for for Bob Clark and Cronenberg , I am not that knowlagable about a canadian director , I agree with ya dho Atom is a great director to bring a chic too , but not really my cup of tea. Am suprised your not familiar with some french canadians flicks , specially the ones from oscar winner Denys Arcand ( Les invasions Barbares , Le declin de lempire american , Jesus de montreal )ect... suprisingly not one french canadian flick has really wowed me ( t.v shows are different dho), have got a few in my collections but mostly comedies , but i do admit that Bon cop bad cop suprised me a litle , would love to see more french english co-prodution

rewatching Calvaire , what a treat , be on the look out for a small review in the gropu , also keep in mind that Renegade , is a bit all over the place and has some flaws and is not your conventional western , have you seen and like the fountain , if so your gonna really enjoy the end of renegade. Also dont forget The last horror movie , truly a hidden horror gem , imagine if Patrick Bateman ( more sain and not a killer because of repressed sexual feelings) was inspired by The blairwitch and Behund the mask and decided to document his life has serial killer , well this flick is it and it works really well

oh been meaning to ask you if your a fan of Lynch (i have seen every filmwell except for his shorts ) . I love his films but wont call myself a hardcore fan since i do understand whay some will say that his films dont make sens at all , I have no trouble making sens of his films ( even if am left with stuff that dont seem to fit anywere) I always found that lynch was one if not the most intersting dorector to watch at work. But with Inland empire , the fucker lost me on the road of his new journey. it wasnt because this was the most hard to follow and comprehend flick i ever saw , but more because of is choice in camera , what the fuck is the point of watching a lynch flick , if you cant appreciated , the mix of colours , the lighting and every single detail in a room . Inland empire was a huge huge disapontment in that department , if he keeps shooting with a cheap digital camera i have to say that am gonna fluch him , even if it's the directors that fucking amazed me with Lost highway

Actually, it doesn't surprise me one bit that you read a lot, Rock, but it does surprise me that you're not more of a Kubrick fan. I expect more from the Shogun Assassin! Kubs slant on humanity, his dark, overwhelming take on our sick souls is something I'd have guessed would have endeared him more to you. Don't tell me you've never wanted to put on a Beethoven suit, walk through a mall like you've owned the place and pick up some young devotchkas that were licking popsicles. No matter how fluid my tastes might be or become in my lifetime A Clockwork Orange is and always will be my favorite movie ever, my desert island movie, as much for sentimental reasons as for my great apprciation for phenomonal filmmaking. If you have a problem with that I'd have to say, "Come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles, you eunuch jelly thou!"

If you haven't seen Paths of Glory and The Killing, do. If you have seen them and didn't like them I'll be dumbfounded. Cerebral filmfans, usually the ones with weak stomachs, will often put Barry Lyndon at the top of their Kub lists because of how it was shot, because all of these scenes look like fine paintings. I liked it but not as much as 2001, Strangelove, The Shining, lolita and Full Metal Jacket. Yes, I might say Eyes Wide Shut was lesser Kubrick but I definitely didn't think it was boring and I'd never say it was pretentious. That word and the name Stanley Kubrick just don't go together.

I hated the Fountain and probably won't be giving it another chance in the near future. Now that was a pretentious movie if I;ve ever seen one and i'd has such high hopes for Arronofsky after the brilliant, sickening Requiem. Boyle took the wrong path too, trying way too hard to do the consummate, grondbreaking sci-fi film of his generation with Sunshine. they both failed miserably and both movies reeked too much of kubrick envy. They were not the 2001 of today. On a happier note they're both supposed to have redeemed themselves with releases this year of The Wrestler and Slumdog Millionaire.

Love Lynch. love his movies with the exception, like you, of Inland Empire. Love any interview I've seen with him and have yet to see a Twin peaks episode or Dumbland.

How 'bout you with Peckinpah? I think I'll have to take you off of my friends list if you're not much of a Kubrick fan or a peckinpah fan either. For gritty, badass, brilliant, angry cinema Sam's the man. I'm guessing you've seen The Wild Bunch and Straw Dogs. Cross of iron, the getaway and bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia would all be up your alley too. I'm looking to get my hands on his western boxset. Bloody sam's the man!

Oh, and I like Barbarian Invasions. Forgot about that one. I've had it listed here for awhile because it has rental stickers on it.

In deed I did recomend Sheitan , just saw your small feedback on it , glad you found it entertaining , I had a feeling you would like it . intersting fact about that film , is it's the youngdirectors first feature film , him and a couple of the actors you saw are a group of guys in the same lane has the broken lizard comedie troup , instead they dont really do comedie , they have done a bunch of shorts before cassel noticed them and ask if he could play in a couple of them ( for free i think) , he did and they ask him to be in their first feature film. But if you were trying to find a frenchy delivrance kinda movie , i see why you felt that way , but honnestly that isnt it . the one your looking for is Calvaire aka The ordeal , imagine if Lynch (in his prime) would try is hand at some horror , it would look a lot like this one , this film is a must see for people like us , am proably 99% sure your gonna like this recomendation has much has Baise-moi
dont forget to check out The last horror movie.

I happen to be a big fan of Cassel , am glad he started to get noticed by english folks thanks to films like Derailed, The birthday girl , Oceans 12 and 13 and Pink Panther , but moost people dont even know that Jan Kounen ( dobermann) has directed a recent westernin english staring Cassel and a bunch of good seasoned american actors . Its called Blueberry aka Renegade ( youll have more luck finding it on Renegade) , It's nothing has mesmerizing has the rencentThe proposition ( if you havent seen it do)

Also is there some french canadian films and directors that you like , have you see Maelstrom , am pretty sure you would love it.
also what do you think about french and english co-production , after the good Bon cop bad cop and the awesome Dernier chapitre/last chapter t.v series , i dont understand why they aint more of them

thanks for pointing out that Lurking fear was on dvd, it also made me think of another horror film I would love to see Night of the creeps , cant ind that one.
you proably noticed that i want ot see Flying high on dvd , you seem to have a classic movie knowledge and know whats out on dvd. Do you know any titles staring Burt Lahr ( love that actor hes the guy that palys the lion in wizard of oz) and the Mad house flick your looking is it the same has me , the underappreciated comedie flick with John Laroquette and Vhristie Alley

Are you much of a reader, Rock? If you are I'd like to recommend Robert Kolker's A Cinema of Loneliness, Easy Riders, Raging Bulls by Pete Biskind and Citizen Welles by Frank Brady.
The first is a book on theory that covers and looks at and compares the works of directors I'm certain you like and maybe one or two you might not know much about (but, in all likelihood, after reading this book, you'll want to seek out some of their movies.) I'd bet 10-1 you've seen (andenjoyed?) Kubrick, Spielberg, Scorsese and Oliver Stone's films. Arthur Penn and Robert Altman maybe not so much.
Easy Riders, Raging Bulls, as the title suggests, charts the history of the New Hollywood post-studio system between 1969 and 1980. It's very thorough and enlightening if not a little sensational.
If you're keen on classic cinema I'd say say your best bet is getting a biograpghy on one of the all time great directors and go from there. Orson Welles would be my own personal choice to start at. You could choose a bio. on John Ford, Howard Hawks, Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock, Fritz Lang. etc, that'll provide you with a goldmine of movies to look out for and and give you an inspiring, interesting read ta boot.
Head to your local library, used book store or Goodwill and take a look around. You're bound to find a few gems. I'd gladly lend you a book or two but the cost to ship in Canada is criminal.

Cronenberg's not one of my favorite director's but he's my favorite Canadian director. There's not much to be said for the Canadian filmindustry compared to say Europe andThe States. Bob Clark and DC are cool. I've heard some good things about Guy Maddin and I might tell the ladies to go see an Atom Egoyan picture.. he's not my cup of tea. I might see Passchendaele when it's out on dvd and the only Canadian releases I can think of off the top of my head that i might buy if i see them at a discount would be Nanookof the North, Mon Oncle Antoine and Brand Upon the Brain! nut only because they're part of the Criterion Col. I don't tend to base my moviegoing on nationhood. Maybe I'm not much of a patriot. Who knows.

I'll put renegade and Calvaire closer to the top of my neverending list. Cheers.

Real sorry about everything that went wrong there Bloomberg , I saw that he also hasnt mark his item received in bulins ratings , maybe he his waiting to see what hell get , but i do know that he is a pretty damn busy person and from my trading with him quite trustworthy . Palindromes was an adequate enough compliment to Welcome to the Dollhouse that I'm tempted to watch the latter again in the near future.
My one complaint about the Sunshine farm part wouldn't be that the kids weren't bad off enough but that it was overlong. It feels like there was supposed to be another part to this movie that might have been cut or never developed for whatever reason (maybe with the girl who didn't have a speaking part?) and that Solondz compensated for this by stretching the other one out. he probably could have accomplished showing their hypocrisy in abouthalf the time.
The trucker was the way he was deliberately to show that he had the same emotional maturity and was as impressionable as a 13yr old. Sadly, yes, there are a lot of people like him out there.
I liked TS's idea to use 8 actresses for the one girl. It's a keen insight for him to see that girls of that age are indeed complex and might struggle through eight different identities in a year. It worked as far as I'm concerned.
Ellen Burstyn was great and I liked Lea Thompson too however short her part was. You have to admire any actor for taking the risk of working with TS's subject matter, let alone doing a good job with it.
He's slated to start working on a new movie shortly that Paul Reubens might be in. Now that's a guy that's gotta worry about being exploited for self-parody!

LMAO fucking guy in the ratingsdoesnt even mention how was the quality of the disc , that i went outa my way to pick that title up for him , how secure the packages was , man he just laugh about the packing , doesnt even consider the heart and love and even some personal body-fluid super glue that i put in the package , ingrate LMAO i was looking at my package before shipping it , man it showed that i had pack it late at night pretty fucking stone lol you should see what the christmas gifts for my familly looks like once there wrap (you would piss in your pants ,my dad and step-mom always laughout loud my wife only lowers her head in shame wonder why.), i always do my packing late at night lol

like i said maybe it`s the fact that i have work with tougher case then what you see at that farm house , I think it would of have more of an effect if we saw a couple of children that are paralized vegetables , eat tru a tube , get wash , a scrawny naked paralized and in vegetable state would of been powerfull images that would of aded something the film. i agree completly that it was kinda to long and that it was misssing soemthing . Yeah i see your poitn of view concerning the trucker , but like i said i found it pretty predictable , probably goes i read and watch the news and the fact that it`s not the first time you kinda see that on film . I just thought it would of been a lot more surprising if he would of refused the kids advance , I also catch up on what Solonz wanted to do with the 13 year old mentality thing , but i strongly think it would of had a better effect if the trucker was almost perfect before he commited that crime . Most of what we have learn about abortionist assasination are not done by a simple pawn most case it`s done by a cold killer that strongly thinks he is doing the world a favor , if am not mistaken i remember some case that never were resolve. I have nothing to say against the directing and acting . The reason why i mainly wanted to see it was that i knew the main character was played by 8 different actors , but like i said ithink an older actress would of been more proper when she sleeps with the trucker , i would think she would probably feel older in her mind in that moment.

No i dont think Deveraux artistic point of view was diminish by doing a english film , i think his film is probably truly great for a canadian film , and i think the other directiors also know that , thats probably why there pisss , they would of said a word if it would of suck . Lol a lot of french cnandians language is a touchy subject , not me really my french is fucking broken , ive always in hull/gatineau both cities are next to Ottawa , and i also live in asmall towncalledQuyon and went to a mix language scholl . The citie i visited most in Quebec is fucking Montreal , man you stumble on more people that dont speak a word of frenchthen i do in ottawa ,I also spend 1 month in Ireland when i was 21 , i never talk the same after that lol. But that doesnt change that hey thereat leasts25 good canadian horror film , i have a few in more collection , there only 2 french canadian one and frankly they suck big time , am fucking dying to have one in french and I have no fucking clue why we dont see more frech/english co-production , the only one i can think of is Bon cop/ Bad cop , I love it , there is some flaws but for a canadian film i find it one of the bestly done . To bad i suck at writing and am a lazy ass , I had an idea for a horror flick that mix`s what is canada is all abput, french , english and native american . all sorroundinga kinda black magic idian tale about a legacy of a cursedmad trappers/fur tradersfamilly set in the woods . there kinda elements of deja vu but it would mostly be original , i should get down and write itbefore i start loosing my mind .

Hey bud how ya doin . heres a link for the SPASM festival that happen in montreal this time of year , I havent been to it yet but have been following it`s progress for over 3 years now and own one of their dvd( horror shorts vol1) . spasm is a small festival that showcase mostly independant horror and sci-fi shorts but it branchs in every other genreyoueven animation , different days different themes. Their all made byindie directors from the province of Quebec id say the stuff is 65% french 35$ englisg but some stuff is subtitled in englishand in french. and suprisingly has the years go by theres more seasoned actors in the indie shorts. But this year there is also 3 full lenght film .
Cul-de-sac looks fucking entertaining check out the trailer , fyi that old dude youll see is a really respected season actor that has been in mainstream stuff for so fucking long .
Also be on a real look out for End of the line ( check the trailer ) mow this one has been all over the place ( even the film festival in toronto) and has won lots of prizes . now this one has a small controversy sorrounding it over here , mostly byindie french directors that were part of the spasmfestival since the begining , their kinda piss at the director MauriceDeveraux ( he was aprt of the first year and one a prize) that he dint do his film in french . They say that it would of help a lot ourfull lenght horror industry ( i think there has only been 2 and they fucking suck) and would of help them to get finances for their film, am kinda on their side cuz ive been dying to see a real goodmostly french canadian language film and this one looks fucking good , ah well

Man those elections were fucking useless , in my book someone shoul;d be hang for the missused of 300 + milion dollars that they used for this early and pointless election , dint anyone think this was really not the time money wise for elections god damn politicians

ah man too bad you hit a wall with doberman and yes my dvd has englisg subtitles . It`s mostly french t.v shows that come from quebec thatdont haveenglish subtitles , most of our film do and maybe half of them are dubbed in english , Am a big fan of Cassel really cant wait for his 2 Jaques Mesrine biopic to hit theatres/dvd here , the french critics are all over it . but Dobermann is really a hidden gem , truly my fav 2nd film of all time , if i get a burner ill burn ya a copy for free.
am not sure if i have a queen video in Ottawa ill have to check for that . one of my friend that used to work with methat i havent seen in a long time used to take me to a place were you had to have a credit card to rent cuz to guy rented is personal collection all hard to find foreign films , and he sold pirate copy of the dvds too , I had the chance to discover El topo before the region 1 dvd got out here, I dint buy any but almost did but my friend did buy me a couple of them at christmas time , quality pirating , too bad i forgot the name and were the fuck it is.

I hit a wall with my used store name , i cant find there on-line site , but i think they mostly sell. I dod check once in a while for another site like switch to see if there a better one out there but I havent found any.

Me at the moment am satisfied with this site , my objectives when i joined this site are all met . I was only trying to get rid of blindbuys that i thought suck or were only watchable once . Since i think my items suck , i wasnt expecting to find items here high on my list , but suprisingly I did and still do . I have received has much dvd`s then i havesend and if i look value wise all the items that i received put together are worth more then what i have send even if i ad every cent i have spend for shipping.

But i have check the profil pages and your right a lot of switchers are leaving this place and maybe half of them have a lot of switchs history . I wonder if some of them have found a better place . But am not sure everyone leaves here because of the site. Actually my coolest friend here that has ordred stuff from columbia and sold them to me here and recently gave me the rest of her sb`s is leaving this site more because of members then the site . She has stumble on a lot of members that had items she wanted that dint wanna send to canada and disc that were advertise has perfect but came full scratch , so she gave up on this site. I strongly think shes probably not the only canadian member that got discourage by u.s members that dont send to canada , specially members that have a small wish list.

I gotta say am pretty lucky that i have a big ass wish list and that am looking for books , games . dvds and cd`s and since spawn joined i had the chance to get my hands on some toys , Man just got the Jaws and NOLS 3-d posters there fucking awesome , also the fact that am looking for every kinda genre of films help , man i was only once able to jack my bank account to 112 , i really have a strong time keeping them and have have pass on a lot of items because i had no sb`s

I look everyday at what gets traded on the dashboard and everyday theres a lot of action and suprisingly it aint all dvd`s , there a lot of cd`s and games beeing traded , but also theres a lot of items that get traded that i have in my wishlist that i never got an e-mail for it or plainly could see it because it was owned by a u.s citizen that dint check that he mails to canada

Except for a litle touch ups i dont know whay chris could do to improce this site . I wish there were a couple of touchs in the group sections , would love to be able to quote someone or edit my post , and am still piss that i cant see peoples wish list or at least the ones who let me , theres a lot of benefits in that.

I found it quite interesting but i found it ad to much flaws for my liking and some predictibility to it , and some stuff did piss me .
