The cartoon series Family Guy is experiencing a network revival these days, and the CD, Family Guy Live in Las Vegas, is undoubtedly just part of the planned marketing blitz. Not exactly a soundtrack, this disc contains mostly new material created specifically for the album, all performed with Vegas lounge panache.
Freed from the constraints of television, series producer Seth MacFarlane tells viewers of the bonus DVD that the comedy on this disc will be "edgier." While Family Guy was never known for subtlety, most of the tracks on this disc are as heavy handed and mean-spirited as hitting someone over the head with a baseball bat. "All Cartoons Are F***** D**ks," with a guest appearance by Jason Alexander, is sort of funny, and the TV medley sung by Brian and Stewie is enjoyable (although it's overstayed its welcome by the time they get to the "Who's the Boss" theme). Other tracks like "Puberty's Gonna Get Me," and "'Q' Man Loves Nobody" are just painful. Perhaps the most entertaining part of this package is Stewie's "Sexy Party" video, which is found on the DVD. This disc holds promise for Family Guy fans and anyone who's driven to hysterical giggles by the word "balls." For othersnot so much. --Leah Weathersby--This text refers to the explicit edition. - Amazon.com
